It is an Ancient Mariner, and he stoppeth one of… you?
WINNER: ‘Best In Fringe’ Award at the Shaftesbury Fringe 2016.
A one-man re-telling of Coleridge’s classic poem.
Let the Mariner take you with him on his journey: across the ocean, into the soul, and through the beer gardens and village greens of life.
A cautionary tale of a thoughtless act and a life of suffering; of cruelty, penance and redemption.
Dare you listen? And what will you learn?
This production was conceived in 2016 to be performed promenade-style in pubs. Brought back in 2020, it was re-directed to be an outdoor show, both in beer gardens and public spaces like village greens.
Each performance was treated as its own site specific event, with as much use of each different space as possible.
Audience reaction from previous performances:
‘Vibrant and mesmerising… a fantastic performance.’
‘Brought to life an old local story that I’ve never been able to engage in as a reader.’
‘Genius use of space.’
And from the judge at The Shaftesbury Fringe Festival:
"He performed it as if he were on the West End stage. What an experience. No props or costume, just raw art; spellbinding."
